The Görres Society for the Advancement of Science is one of the oldest German scientific societies. On the occasion of its annual conference, held at the University of Tübingen from September 22 to 24, 2023, the scholarly papers and presentations delivered there were compiled in the conference proceedings titled “Immigration and Belonging: Developments in Migration and Nationality Law.” Attorney Mag. Balazs Esztegar, LL.M., was invited as an expert in citizenship law to speak at this prestigious event on Austrian citizenship law.
His presentation focused on dual and multiple citizenship under Austrian law, which exists in Austrian law despite all the mechanisms in the Citizenship Act (StbG) designed to prevent dual citizenship. The paper accompanying his presentation examines the most common cases of dual citizenship and identifies substantive points of criticism regarding the implementation of the European Court of Justice’s case law under EU law in the Austrian Citizenship Act.
