The Hungarian Media Act was published on 31st December 2010 and entered into force on 1st January 2011. All the oppositional parties in the Hungarian parliament have announced concerns about the compatibility of the Media Act with the Basic Law and thus applied for a review by the Hungarian Constitutional Court. Neelie Kroes, vice-president of the European Commission and responsible for the "Digital Agenda" has initiated a proceeding to review the conformity of the Hungarian regulations with the European Law. Consequently, the Media Act has been amended by 6th April 2011.
